Supporting Food Safety for Our Community

Our mission is to protect and promote the health and safety of Island County's residents and visitors. We accomplish this by working with local restaurants, mobile food providers, food vendors, and other establishments to ensure safe food service and prevent disease.

The CDC Estimates 48 million people get sick each year from food borne diseasesPreventing Food-Borne Illness

In addition to permitting and performing routine inspections of food establishments, we prevent food-borne illness by:

  • Investigating reported food-borne illnesses
  • Investigating complaints about unsanitary conditions
  • Consulting with individuals currently operating or wanting to start a food business
  • Educating the food industry and the public about safe food handling
