Helping Prevent Injuries From Falls In Our Community
Island County Public Health initiated an older adult falls prevention coalition in 2022 under the guidance of the Washington State Department of Health. The coalition continues to evolve and grow its membership, bringing organizations and individuals together to share resources and strategies and improve coordination of care for older residents of Island County.
Purpose Statement
Our coalition is committed to helping prevent older adults from falling, with a focus on maintaining the quality of life and independence for older adults in our region through education and risk-mitigation efforts, evidence-based falls prevention programming, and partnerships with healthcare providers and the community.
Our goals are to:
- Increase the availability of evidence-based prevention services and physical activity programs for older adults
- Collaborate to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of fall prevention efforts in Island County
- Promote the consistent use of fall risk screening and self-assessment tools
