Groundwater Data
Comprehensive data collection and management efforts are the basis for better management of Island County’s groundwater resources. Without ample high-quality data, groundwater protection efforts may fall short, allowing degradation of groundwater resources. Conversely, without good data management, efforts may be too restrictive, applying unnecessary burdens on applicants or projects based on faulty risk evaluation.
Since management of water resources includes individual well owners, public water system operators and customers, and multiple levels of government officials, Island County Public Health has compiled the best available science pertaining to groundwater wells and groundwater quality from the following sources:
- Island County Public Health's Seawater Intrusion and Long-term Groundwater Monitoring
- Washington Department of Ecology (DOE) Well Report Viewer and Environmental Information Management System (EIM)
- Washington Department of Health (DOH) Office of Drinking Water Sentry Internet and Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) Mapping
- United States Geological Survey (USGS)
- Public Water Systems
- Individual Well Owners
Groundwater well and groundwater quality data are made available to the public via ICGeoMap and the Island County Hydrogeology Dashboard.
With ICGeoMap application, you can view basic groundwater well information and public water system service areas. Clicking on any well provides a link to more information about the well, including scanned well logs and public water system information (where applicable and available). The public water system service area layer can identify potential sources of drinking water available for a parcel.
The Island County Hydrogeology Dashboard compiles information from multiple data sources for water quality and geologic information. If you are looking for water quality information for a specific well or to view interactive maps of water quality, this is the easiest way to view the data.
Other environmental data sources:
- Island County Climate Data Dashboard compiles climate data available through Washington State University AgWeatherNet and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Climate Data Office.
- Current drought conditions are available through the National Drought Mitigation Center, U.S. Drought Monitor.
