A surficial slide occurred along Cultus Bay Road on March 20th 2017. The slide comes up to the edge of the road pavement. As a precaution, the county reduced the road to one lane traffic in this area. This section of the road will remain one lane over the next few months, until a repair is completed. It is fully anticipated that the road will reopen to two lane traffic.

Surficial slides (surface material sliding) are fairly common on Whidbey Island, especially at this time of year. Over the years, the county has had to construct similar road repairs at many other sites.
