E-Cycle Washington

E-cycle LogoIsland County and Island Recycling are participants in the E-Cycle Washington program.  E-Cycle Washington is an example of "product stewardship," whereby industry takes responsibility for the end of service disposal of their products.

What's accepted:  Televisions, Monitors, Computer Towers, Lap-top Computers, Tablets, E-readers, and Portable DVD Players.

What's not accepted:  DVD players, Clock Radios, Keyboards, mice, Printers, External drives or other peripherals and electronics.

E-Cycle Washington is paid for by electronics manufactures. Computers, monitors and televisions contain lead, cadmium, mercury and other metals that are toxic, persistent, and sometimes bioaccumulative in the environment. Steel and plastic can be recycled. Recycling eligible electronics through the E-cycle Washington program prevents environmental contamination and saves you money!

E-Cycle Washington Participating Locations:

  • Coupeville Solid Waste Complex
  • Camano Solid Waste Dropbox & Recycle Park
  • North Whidbey Dropbox and Recycle Park
  • DTG Recycle, 20014 S State Highway 525, Freeland, WA, 360-331-1727

Please bring enough 'muscle power' to unload your electronics and place them on the pallets provided.

Other Electronics Recycling

Some Office Max, Best Buy, and other electronic retailers accept electronics for recycling.  Some stores place conditions on what they accept, for example; a store may take your old printer only if you purchase a new printer from them. Call your local retailer to see if they participate in product recycling.

The Washington PaintCare program is funded by a fee (referred to as the PaintCare fee) which is applied to the purchase price of new paint sold in the state. There is no charge for dropping off paint at a PaintCare drop-off site. The PaintCare fee is not a tax or a deposit. The fee funds all aspects of the paint stewardship program. For more information on the fee, visit the PaintCare Fee page.

Appliance Recycling

Washers, dryers, hot water heaters, stoves, ovens and other non-refrigerating household appliances can be recycled at the Coupeville Solid Waste Complex and the Camano Solid Waste Dropbox & Recycle Park, disposal fees apply. Refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, water coolers, wine coolers, chillers, air conditioners, and other charged refrigeration units contain powerful greenhouse gasses and must be recycled at the Coupeville Solid Waste Complex or the Camano Solid Waste Dropbox & Recycle Park for certified refrigerant recovery. Food must be removed from refrigerators and freezers, disposal fees apply.
